Kevin Kelsy could fire his way to Celtic opportunity as Rangers lifeline revealed after injury nightmare

Kevin Kelsy could be thrown into the deep end much quicker than anticipated at Rangers.

The Venezuelan signed on deadline day from Portland Timbers for £9million, another big spend by Andrew Cavenagh and Co.

Derek McInnes was happy with the signing, which became even more important in the 1-0 win over Motherwell.

With Youssef Chermiti already out long-term with an ACL injury, Lawrence Shankland will now miss three months with a hamstring issue.

It's a nightmare scenario for the Rangers skipper, especially with two Old Firm showdowns with Celtic coming in the next fortnight.

Del will be happy with his depth, but seething that this has happened to Shankland again, this time at Ibrox.

Writing in the print edition of the Daily Record on Tuesday, Jackson believes that McInnes may actually feel lucky this time around.

"Last week's £9million arrival of Kevin Kelsy has thrown him a bit of a lifeline in that regard," he said.

"It's more then likely then that Kelsy will be given the chance to fire his way into that double-header when St Mirren arrive at Ibrox.

"And McInnes will hope that amid the rubble of a chaotic summer, he might discover his luck is finally starting to turn."

Unfortunately for those who want to see it, Kelsy is still unlikely to start immediately on Wednesday.

Given that is was Ryan Naderi who replaced Shankland against Motherwell, also scoring the winner.

It means that the German will likely get the nod from McInnes, but Kelsy should be available off the bench again, and will be hungrier to make a differnece t

The South American missed an absolute sitter to make it two against the Well, so will want to put that right immediately.

With two games against Celtic coming up, if Naderi struggles from the start and Kelsy makes that difference off the bench, he could get the ultimate opportunity.

Making your first official start in an Old Firm would be a cauldron, but some players would absolutely thrive in that.
