Jeff Stelling reacts after what’s been said about Raheem Sterling to Rangers transfer
Rangers concluded their summer transfer business by bringing in Youssef Chermiti from Everton in a big-money deal.
Rangers signed Chermiti from Everton for a fee in the region of £10m, with the forward replacing Cyriel Dessers after his move to Panathinaikos.
It was a busy day of activity at Ibrox on Monday, with Connor Barron also the subject of an offer to leave Rangers.
Plenty of money was spent in the end, while large funds were also raised, but already there is talk of another deal that could be on the cards down the line for Rangers.

Rangers tipped to move for Raheem Sterling
South of the border, Raheem Sterling failed to get his move away from Chelsea before Monday’s transfer deadline.
As a result, Sterling now faces the prospect of playing next to no football at Stamford Bridge between now and the window reopening in January.
Sterling was not touted as a target for Rangers during the summer window, but that did not stop one caller on talkSPORT pondering if it is a deal that could make sense.
Presenter Jeff Stelling read out the message and offered his thoughts on any potential deal.
“We’ve got a text here about Sterling to Rangers; what a move that’d be for both,” Stelling said.
“Well it’ll have to wait until the next transfer window, come what may.”

Raheem Sterling definitely not the right type of option for Rangers
Sterling – hailed as “incredible” by then-manager Pep Guardiola in 2018 – has enjoyed a hugely successful career in England, both at club level and for his country.
However, with his 31st birthday on the horizon, and very little football under his belt in recent seasons, it is fair to say his best days are behind him.
Raheem Sterling’s club career
- Liverpool (2012-15)
- Man City (2015-22)
- Chelsea (2022-)
- Arsenal, loan (2024-25)
Rangers instead moved for a younger, arguably hungrier, option in Chermiti on deadline day. While the fee will raise eyebrows, he will at least get supporters excited at Ibrox.
Russell Martin has been given a show of faith by Rangers for now, but he needs each of these new signings to settle quickly if the Gers are to turn things around.
If that does not happen, Martin will surely be out of a job before the year is out.
