How much money Rangers can save from Rabbi Matondo and Ben Davies transfers
Rangers have an added incentive to let both Rabbi Matondo and Ben Davies leave Ibrox.
Davies’ loan spell at Birmingham City was impressive, and it isn’t surprising to see the Championship outfit want him back.
Meanwhile, Matondo joined Hannover 96 on loan in the winter transfer window, and upon his return to Ibrox, Kevin Thelwell is looking to get rid of the Wales international.
Now it looks like the English centre-back and the 24-year-old forward’s exits could potentially give the Light Blues a seven-figure boost.

Davies and Matondo earn £55,000-a-week combined at Rangers
Davies and Matondo’s exits may open up significant space in the Gers’ wage bill.
Jonny McFarlane has revealed that the combined salary of the duo is at least £55,000 a week, which would translate to around £2.86million per year.
With the 29-year-old defender and Welshman in the final years of their contracts at Ibrox, the Glaswegian outfit should look to sell them before the end of August.
Player | Signed in | Appearances | Minutes played |
Matondo | 2022 | 67 | 2641 |
Davies | 2022 | 58 | 4441 |
Speaking on The Rangers Review (8 August), McFarlane said: “Davies and Matondo alone, comfortably, £55k a week they’re taking, and more. But over £55k from the two of them.
“So when you’re talking about those kinds of wages, you have to be careful, because there are parameters and Rangers don’t want to be caught getting into a situation where you get to the end of the window and you haven’t been able to move that kind of guy out.”

Thelwell needs to work on several departures at Ibrox
Robin Propper’s return to FC Twente is the only sale the Gers have made in the ongoing transfer window.
Nine players have joined Russell Martin’s squad, but the Light Blues have struggled to offload some of the unwanted players.
The Glaswegian outfit are working on Ridvan Yilmaz’s exit to Besiktas, but it remains to be seen how the situation unfolds.
Rangers have also sent Ross McCausland on loan to Aris Limassol, and the deal includes a conditional obligation to buy.
- Andrew Cavenagh and 49 Enterprises had promised to invest in the Gers this summer.
- More players are expected to sign at Ibrox this summer.
- Martin will arguably need a more balanced squad to compete with Celtic.
The likes of Davies and Matondo are clearly out of the Scottish manager’s plans for the current campaign, and the Gers should look to offload them as soon as possible.
Clinton Nsiala, Leon King, Robbie Fraser and Jose Cifuentes are some of the other names who may be on their way out this summer. The Light Blues will be looking to balance their books after a significant outlay recently, but it remains to be seen how much money they will be able to recoup.
